Description
The arrival of Blu-ray technology has led to the introduction of high-capacity storage discs, in order to meet the demand caused by the rapid growth experienced by high-definition television (HDTV).
Blu-ray discs get their name from blue laser technology. The laser wavelength is shorter, and this is the reason why the laser is blue. The blue laser features a 405 nm wavelength, compared to the 650 nm wavelength of the DVD, which uses red laser technology. The advantage of having a blue laser with a shorter wavelength allows for smaller data pits to be written, thereby enormously increasing the amount of data on the disc.
